These are the Challenges Faced by Students While Learning from Home

The Covid-19 pandemic impacted not only health but also the education sector. This situation forced students to study at home using distance learning methods.

According to a survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the majority or 92.33% of students admitted to experiencing difficulties during home-based learning. The biggest challenge experienced by students during home-based learning was feeling easily bored or having difficulty concentrating (63.20%). Furthermore, 62.01% of students felt that the learning materials received were suboptimal.

According to the BPS, these two problems did not depend on economic background. The BPS noted that there was no significant difference between students from households in the bottom 40%, middle 40%, and top 20% expenditure groups.

Furthermore, 41.27% of students experienced difficulties during home-based learning due to limited internet and electricity access. Additionally, 27.26% experienced difficulties due to limited learning media or facilities at home.

The higher the expenditure level, the fewer students who felt constrained by learning media/facilities and internet/electricity access.

Another challenge was that 19.29% of students felt a lack of guidance from parents/guardians during home-based learning. Meanwhile, only 7.67% experienced no difficulties, and 3.01% experienced other difficulties.
