Overwhelming Assignments Are Students' Biggest Challenge in Distance Learning

A survey by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) reveals several challenges faced by students during distance learning (PJJ). 77.8% of students reported that their biggest difficulty was an overwhelming amount of assignments, primarily due to teachers assigning work within tight deadlines.

Further difficulties included a lack of internet quota for 42.2% of students, limited study time for 37.1%, and insufficient supporting equipment such as laptops and mobile phones for 15.6%.

79.9% of students also reported minimal interaction with teachers during PJJ, limited to assignment distribution and collection. 87.2% stated that interaction most frequently occurred through messaging applications.

The survey also indicated that 76.7% of students disliked learning from home, with only 23.3% expressing satisfaction with the PJJ method.

Despite these findings, KPAI stated that PJJ remains the best option currently, especially given Indonesia's significant surge in COVID-19 cases.

The KPAI conducted this PJJ survey among 1,700 students from elementary to high school levels across 20 provinces and 54 regencies/cities in Indonesia, from April 13-20, 2020.
