The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) conducted an Academic Competency Test (TKA) for students at the high school level (SMA, SMK, MA, and Paket C) in November 2025.
This TKA, which was held for the first time, was participated in by approximately 3.56 million students, out of a total of 4.1 million registered upper secondary students in Indonesia.
According to Toni Toharudin, Head of the Agency for Standards, Curriculum, and Education Assessment (BSKAP) at Kemendikdasmen, the TKA serves as a diagnostic tool to assess the academic competency of students nationwide.
"The TKA results are not intended to label, rank schools, or make narrow regional comparisons. The TKA results serve as a collective mirror to understand the real learning needs in the classroom," Toni stated in a press release on Monday (22/12/2025).
"TKA data will be used as a starting point for policy improvement, strengthening in-depth learning, curriculum refinement, and enhancing the quality of the teaching and learning process," he added.
From the TKA results in November 2025, high school (SMA) students in Indonesia generally achieved the highest scores in geography and anthropology, with a national average score of approximately 70.
National SMA students also generally scored sufficiently in language and social science subjects, particularly Advanced Indonesian Language, Arabic, Mandarin, history, Pancasila and Civics Education (PPKn), and sociology, with average scores of 60 and above.
However, in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subject group, such as mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, and economics, the average SMA student in Indonesia received low scores, specifically below 60.
The lowest score was in English, with an average score of only 26 out of 100 points.
