The 2024 Education Integrity Assessment (SPI) survey conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) shows that 12% of schools did not use Operational School Assistance (BOS) funds as intended.
Based on type, 46.82% of schools still inflated costs in the use of other funds.
Furthermore, 40.44% of schools showed indications of nepotism in the procurement of goods, services, or projects.
Then, 17.33% of schools were found to still practice extortion, deductions, or illegal levies from BOS funds. Another 42.55% involved other forms of BOS fund misuse.
The KPK survey also found that 28% of schools levied fees outside of official costs during new student admissions.
"Other levies were also found in certification or other document submissions at 23% of schools and 60% of universities," said Wawan Wardiana, Deputy for Education and Community Participation at the KPK, during the launch of the 2024 Education SPI on Thursday (24/4/2025).
The survey involved 36,888 educational units and 449,865 respondents spread across 38 provinces and 507 regencies/cities.
Data collection was conducted from August 22 to September 30, 2024, using online methods (WhatsApp blast, email blast, and computer-assisted web interviewing/CAWI) and a hybrid approach using computer-assisted personal interviewing/CAPI.
