Indonesia's School Participation Rate Increases in 2024

According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), school participation rates (SPR) in Indonesia increased in 2024. This growth occurred across all student age groups, as shown in the graph.

"The higher the SPR achievement, the greater the number of people who have the opportunity to receive education," wrote the BPS in its *2024 Education Statistics* report.

In 2024, the SPR for the 7-12 age group reached 99.19%. This means that approximately 99 out of 100 children in this age group were enrolled and actively participating in education, both formal and non-formal.

Then, for the 13-15 age group, the SPR reached 96.17%, for the 16-18 age group 74.64%, and for the 19-23 age group 29.01%.

"As they approach adulthood, economic opportunities become increasingly available, leading to a choice between school or work to generate income," said the BPS.

Despite the increase, the BPS notes that several challenges remain in the education sector.

"Education in Indonesia faces various challenges, including disparities in access in remote areas, inadequate infrastructure, and low participation rates in upper secondary and higher education," stated the BPS in its report.
