The 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices in Merangin Regency reached Rp22.52 trillion. This represents a 5.28% growth compared to the previous year's Rp20.28 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic period in 2020, economic growth in this region is significantly higher. Post-COVID growth at the end of 2020 was recorded at only 0.78%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 383,680, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp61,140,000 per capita per year. Nationally, this ranks 160th.
Of the 17 sectors driving economic activity in this regency, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are the leading sectors.
Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries contributed the largest share to the GRDP in 2023, reaching Rp11.49 trillion with a growth of 5.12%.
Second is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 9.22% to Rp3 trillion. This is followed by the manufacturing industry sector with a GRDP of Rp1.77 trillion (7.94% growth).
Rounding out the top five is the information and communication sector with a value of Rp873.54 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 7.1% over the past year from the previous achievement of Rp820.36 billion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the most to GRDP growth in Merangin Regency is agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with a contribution of 49.2%. Other sectors in the top five include wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; the manufacturing industry sector; the construction sector; and the information and communication sector.
Sectors with the smallest distribution include Financial and Insurance Services; Other Service Sectors; Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; Corporate Services; and Electricity and Gas Supply.
