The 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, concluded on Sunday (8/10/2023). The Indonesian contingent finished 13th in the final medal standings.
According to the official Asian Games 2022 website, the Indonesian team collected 36 medals, comprising 7 gold, 11 silver, and 18 bronze medals.
Of the 31 sports in which the Indonesian contingent participated, only 13 managed to win medals.
Shooting was the sport that won the most gold medals, with two gold medals contributed by Muhammad Sejahtera Dwi Putra, who won in the men's 10m running target and the men's 10m running target mixed run events. Shooting also collected 3 bronze medals.
The Indonesian dragon boat team was the biggest contributor of medals, with 1 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medal. The gold medal was won by the men's dragon boat team in the 1,000-meter race.
The dragon boat team consistently reached the podium, winning 6 medals from 6 competitions, from both men's and women's teams. The other four gold medals were won in wushu, weightlifting, climbing, and BMX cycling.
However, this achievement did not meet the set targets. Previously, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) targeted Indonesia to be in the top 12.
President Joko Widodo set an even higher target. At the athlete's send-off at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on September 19, 2023, Jokowi hoped Indonesia would finish in the top 10.
The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, stated that his office would conduct an evaluation with the sports that participated in the Asian Games 2022.
“After it's finished, we will conduct a total evaluation of all sports branches in the Asian Games and analyze those that missed the target. We must sit together and find the best solution,” said Dito in his official statement on Sunday (8/10/2023).
