According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia exported 15.6 million tons of steel and iron worth US$28.43 billion in 2022.

This volume increased by 13.11% year-on-year (yoy) from the previous period, which saw exports of only 13.8 million tons of steel and iron.

Central Sulawesi was the largest producing province of steel and iron last year, with exports totaling 7.56 million tons, valued at US$12.4 billion.

Central Sulawesi's exports also increased by 8.28% yoy, from 6.9 million tons of steel and iron in 2021.

Other provinces with significant steel and iron exports include North Maluku, with exports reaching 2.6 million tons, a 54.56% increase from 1.73 million tons the previous year.

This is followed by Southeast Sulawesi and Banten, with steel and iron export volumes of 2.6 million tons and 1.79 million tons respectively.

Other provinces combined exported 652,400 tons of steel and iron in 2022.

This represents an 18.80% decrease from 2021, when exports reached 803,400 tons.
