Pontianak: Best City for Economic Governance in 2016

Pontianak was recognized as the city with the best governance in 2016. Based on the 2016 Regional Economic Governance (REG) study, Pontianak achieved a score of 79.29, the highest among the 32 surveyed provincial capital cities/regencies. Gorontalo came in second with a score of 78.76, followed by Semarang in third place with a score of 78.61.

Pontianak's top score of 97.97 in the infrastructure quality sub-index and 97.96 in the regional head capacity-integrity sub-index contributed to its best governance ranking in 2016. Furthermore, the capital city of West Kalimantan also received high scores in the sub-index measuring security and conflict resolution.

The REG study aimed to provide an overview of the quality of economic governance in 32 provincial capital regions. The study did not include DKI Jakarta Province because it does not have a city/regency-level area as its capital. This quality overview was measured based on several variables within the authority of the Regional Government and based on the needs of the business world. The economic governance score ranges from 0-100. The higher a region's score, the better its regional economic governance.
