Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. Post-COVID growth at the end of 2020 was recorded at only 0.4%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 228,940, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp23,720,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 457th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the regency's economy, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are the leading contributors.
In 2023, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in Belu Regency recorded a value of Rp1.23 trillion, ranking first among the 17 sectors. This sector grew by 2.44% compared to the previous year's Rp1.14 trillion.
Following this are the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 6.19% to Rp839.55 billion; the education services sector, which grew by 4.55% to Rp831.13 billion; and finally, the construction sector, with a value of Rp491.41 billion, rounding out the top five. According to BPS, this sector achieved 8.13% growth over the previous year's Rp433.82 billion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the most to GRDP growth in Belu Regency is agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with a contribution of 22.71%. The other top five sectors are education services, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, public administration, defense, and compulsory social security, and construction.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Manufacturing Industry, Accommodation and Food Service Activities, Electricity and Gas Supply, Corporate Services, and Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling.
