Indonesia is among the top 20 countries with the most billionaires globally, according to Forbes' report, *The Countries with The Most Billionaires and Their Richest Citizens 2023*.
A billionaire is defined as an individual with a net worth exceeding US$1 billion, or approximately Rp14.88 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp14,887/US$).
Forbes' report lists approximately 2,640 billionaires from 77 countries worldwide – an increase of two countries compared to last year.
Panama and Armenia are the two new entrants, contributing billionaires Stanley Motta (an investor with a significant portfolio in Panama's Banco General) and Ruben Vardanyan (an investment banker and politician who made his fortune in Russia during the 1990s and renounced his Russian citizenship last year), respectively.
The United States remains the country with the most billionaires, boasting 735 individuals on the Forbes list, unchanged from the previous year. Despite nearly 50 Americans, including Kanye West and Sam Bankman-Fried, dropping in rank and several billionaires passing away, over 60 US citizens joined the billionaire ranks for the first time in 2023. LeBron James and Tiger Woods are among the new US billionaires this year.
Following the US, China holds the second position with 495 billionaires, followed by India and Germany with 169 and 126 billionaires, respectively.
