In 2022, the Indonesian government allocated a budget of Rp455.62 trillion for the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program.
The 2022 PEN budget was allocated to three main activities: health handling, community protection, and strengthening economic recovery.
The largest portion, Rp178.32 trillion (approximately 39.13% of the total budget), was allocated to strengthening economic recovery.
Within the economic strengthening category, the PEN budget supported various initiatives from Ministries/Agencies (K/L), including labor-intensive programs in tourism and the creative economy, food security, support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and state capital investment for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) handling national strategic projects.
The next largest portion of the 2022 PEN budget, Rp154.76 trillion (33.96% of the total budget), was allocated to community protection.
This community protection budget was used for social assistance programs, including the Family Hope Program (PKH), Job Loss Guarantee (JKP), Village Direct Cash Assistance (BLT), and food staple support.
Finally, Rp122.54 trillion (approximately 26.89% of the total budget) was allocated to health handling.
The health handling budget was used for the continuation of the Covid-19 vaccination program, Covid-19 patient care, health worker incentives, tax incentives, and Covid-19 handling in regions.
The Ministry of Finance emphasized that the 2022 PEN budget could also be used according to changes in economic conditions and dynamics.
"This is because the PEN program remains flexible and accountable, making it responsive and anticipatory in handling Covid-19 to continue driving economic recovery," wrote the Ministry of Finance on its official website (February 23).
