10 Regencies/Cities with the Highest Per Capita Cooking Oil Expenditure in 2021

Cooking oil is a staple for Indonesian households. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), cities and regencies in Papua recorded the highest per capita weekly expenditure on cooking oil.

Of the 10 cities and regencies with the highest per capita cooking oil expenditure, eight are in Papua, one in West Papua, and one in the Riau Islands.

This is because the distribution of cooking oil to eastern and western Indonesia involves high logistical costs. Intan Jaya recorded the highest expenditure on cooking oil, reaching Rp9,705 per person per week in 2021, an increase of 11.01% from the previous year.

With an average family size of 3 to 4 people, cooking oil expenditure reaches approximately Rp41,731 per household per week.

Lanny Jaya recorded the second-highest cooking oil expenditure, followed by Yalimo, Nduga, Tolikara, Jayawijaya, Waropen, Anambas Islands, Teluk Bintuni, and Yapen Islands.

The government plans to distribute a direct cash assistance (BLT) of Rp300,000 this month to 20.5 million recipients of the Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) and Family Hope Program (PKH), as well as 2.5 million traders. This BLT aims to help recipients purchase cooking oil, the price of which remains high.
