Purworejo Regency's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp23.19 trillion. This represents a 5.07% growth compared to the previous year's Rp21.35 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth recorded a decrease of 1.61%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) data, with a total population of 806,370, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp29,420,000 per capita per year. Nationally, this ranks 406th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the regency's economy, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are the leading sectors.
Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Purworejo Regency are the mainstay sectors, contributing the largest share to the 2023 GRDP with a value of Rp5 trillion. This represents a 2.58% growth compared to the previous year's Rp4.65 trillion.
Second is the manufacturing industry, growing by 5.11% to Rp4.59 trillion, followed by the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 4.33% to Rp2.83 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five is the education services sector with a value of Rp1.93 trillion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 5.53% over the past year from the previous year's Rp1.8 trillion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to Purworejo Regency's GRDP is agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with a contribution of 19.36%. Other sectors in the top five include manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, construction, and information and communication.
Sectors with the smallest distribution are Health and Social Services, Mining and Quarrying, Business Services, Electricity and Gas Supply, and Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling.
