Indonesian men's doubles badminton pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The pair, popularly known as Fajar/Rian, were defeated by a Chinese men's doubles pair in the quarter-finals at the Binjiang Gymnasium, Hangzhou, on Thursday (5/10/2023).
Consequently, Indonesia's badminton team failed to win any medals in both the men's doubles and singles categories. As a result, Fajar/Rian's decline in performance impacted their world ranking.
Based on the latest ranking released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on October 11, 2023, Fajar/Rian dropped to second place in the world with 90,129 points.
Previously, Fajar/Rian had held the top spot in the world men's doubles ranking since December 2022. Unfortunately, their performance declined after winning the Malaysia Open 2023 and the All England Open 2023.
In subsequent tournaments, Fajar/Rian consistently bowed out in the early rounds. As a result, the top position is now occupied by the Indian men's doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, who have accumulated 92,411 points.
Meanwhile, the men's doubles pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan remained in the top 10 with 68,150 points.
