The Indonesian Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) reported that Indonesia's investment realization reached Rp302.2 trillion (approximately USD 20.4 billion based on July 20, 2022 exchange rate) in the second quarter of 2022, the highest in the last decade.

According to BKPM data, this realization increased by 7% quarter-to-quarter (qtq) from Q1 2022 and grew by 35% year-on-year (yoy) from Q2 2021.

In detail, in Q2 2022, Domestic Investment (PMDN) realization reached Rp139 trillion, growing 2.8% qtq and 30.8% yoy.

Meanwhile, Foreign Investment (PMA) realization amounted to Rp163.2 trillion in the same period. This figure also grew by 10.8% qtq and 39.7% yoy.

According to the Investment Minister/Head of BKPM, Bahlil Lahadalia, the high growth in PMA realization is due to Indonesia's continued appeal as an investment destination amidst global economic uncertainty.

"This is due to several factors. First, they believe in President Jokowi's leadership; second, they believe in political stability; third, our legal processes are improving; and fourth, transparency in acceleration and service," said Bahlil in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Bahlil also reported that the Q2 2022 investment realization absorbed 320,534 workers, a 2.8% yoy increase.

By business sector, the largest investment realization in Q2 2022 went to the basic metal industry, metal goods, excluding machinery and equipment, with a total value of Rp48.2 trillion.

Regionally, investment realization outside Java in Q2 2022 reached Rp157.1 trillion or 52.0% of total investment. Meanwhile, Java recorded Rp145.1 trillion or 48%.

West Java attracted the largest investment, at Rp44 trillion, followed by DKI Jakarta at Rp40.1 trillion and Central Sulawesi at Rp32.1 trillion.
