Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth recorded a decrease of 1.95%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 354,050, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp51,640,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 216.5.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the administration of government, defense, and mandatory social security sector is the leading contributor.
In 2023, the administration of government, defense, and mandatory social security sector in Ambon City recorded a value of Rp4.72 trillion. This is the highest among the 17 sectors, showing a 1.98% growth compared to the previous year's Rp4.47 trillion.
Following this is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 7.36% to Rp3.77 trillion, and the transportation and warehousing sector, which grew by 2.86% to Rp2.06 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five GRDP sectors in Ambon City is information and communication, with a value of Rp1.33 trillion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 6.16% over the past year from the previous year's Rp1.23 trillion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing to GRDP growth in Ambon City is wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with a contribution of 22.82%. Other top five sectors include the administration of government, defense, and mandatory social security; information and communication; transportation and warehousing; and financial and insurance services.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Health and Social Activities Services; Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; Mining and Quarrying; Real Estate; and Electricity and Gas Supply.
