Members of Parliament, Most Frequently Implicated in Corruption Cases in 2018

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) on Friday (March 15th) at the Sidoarjo Religious Affairs Office, East Java. The operation ensnared the Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) and member of the House of Representatives (DPR), Romahurmuziy, who is suspected of being involved in bribery related to the filling of positions in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Members of the DPR, who should be representatives of the people, are frequently implicated in corruption cases.

Rommy's arrest, the nickname of the PPP Chairman, will further lengthen the list of elected officials ensnared in corruption cases. According to KPK data, 103 members of the DPR and DPRD were caught in corruption cases throughout 2018. This number is the highest compared to other public officials/private individuals, as shown in the graph below.

For information, the number of elected officials implicated in corruption cases from 2004-2018 totals 247, the highest compared to other groups. Meanwhile, throughout 2018, the KPK apprehended 260 public officials/private individuals.
