The Corruption Perception Index of Indonesia Worsened in 2025

According to a report by Transparency International (TI), Indonesia's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) worsened in 2025.

The CPI is an index that measures the level of corruption in a country based on the perceptions of experts and businesspeople regarding the misuse of public office, bribery practices, the integrity of officials, and law enforcement.

These perceptions are then converted into a score on a scale of 0-100 points. The lower the score, the more corrupt a country is considered to be.

In 2025, Indonesia scored 34 points on the CPI, a decrease of 3 points from the previous year. This indicates that experts and businesspeople perceive corruption practices in Indonesia as worsening.

"In the case of Indonesia, the worsening of corruption is due to the narrowing of public space, so the media and society cannot express their opinions openly," said TI Indonesia Secretary General, J. Danang Widoyoko, in a press release (10/2/2026).

"Corruption also worsens due to the erosion of judicial independence. The judicial system is under the influence of executive power," said Danang.

A similar view was expressed by TI Indonesia Program Manager, Ferdian Yazid.

"This decline shows that Indonesia is facing a worrying situation in its efforts to fight corruption," said Ferdian.

"The use of the President's authority to pardon corrupt individuals through amnesties, abolitions, and rehabilitations actually reinforces the perception that the law enforcement process in Indonesia is problematic from top to bottom. This situation certainly creates legal uncertainty that will ultimately affect other sectors, including the economy," he said.
