According to monitoring by Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), in 2024, there were 1,768 recorded cases of criminal acts of corruption in Indonesia, involving 1,871 defendants.

Based on occupational background, the majority, or 603 defendants, came from the private sector.

ICW assesses that defendants holding strategic positions, such as legislators, regional heads, state-owned and regionally-owned enterprise employees, and ministers, are still not the main focus of law enforcement officials.

"This trend indicates that law enforcement officials are still focused on prosecuting corruption at the operational level," ICW wrote in its report, Trends in Corruption Case Verdicts 2024.

According to them, investigating corruption involving strategic actors has the potential to uncover broader and more structured corruption networks.

The report also found that 97% of all corruption defendants in 2023 were over 30 years old, while 3% were still under 30 years old.
