In the October 2025 edition of the World Economic Outlook (WEO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects global economic growth this year to slow down compared to last year.

In 2024, the global economy was able to grow by 3.3% (year-on-year/yoy). Meanwhile, in 2025, global economic growth is estimated at 3.2% (yoy).

Out of 191 countries for which data is available, 100 countries are projected to have lower economic growth in 2025 compared to 2024.

Meanwhile, 85 countries are expected to see stronger growth, and 6 countries are projected to remain stable or the same as last year.

Generally, the IMF views widespread protectionism as one of the main challenges for the global economy today, referring to policies that restrict international trade—especially imports—to protect domestic industries.
