Distribution of Gold Ownership Among Indonesian Households in Early 2025

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 17.03% of households in Indonesia owned gold or jewelry weighing at least 10 grams as of March 2025.

However, the ownership rate varied across provinces.

East Kalimantan had the highest proportion, with 29.71% of households owning gold or jewelry weighing at least 10 grams.

Meanwhile, Highland Papua was the lowest, with only 4.43% of households owning such assets.

Below is the proportion of households owning gold/jewelry weighing at least 10 grams in Indonesia as of March 2025, sorted from highest to lowest:

BPS obtained this data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) for the March 2025 period, with 345,000 household respondents spread across 514 regencies/cities in 38 provinces of Indonesia, both in rural and urban areas.

Data collection was carried out through direct interviews between officers and the head of the household, the spouse of the head of the household, or household members who were knowledgeable about the surveyed matters.
