Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a United Nations (UN) agenda to improve societal well-being through development in social, economic, environmental, and governance sectors.
As a UN member state, Indonesia has also adopted this agenda since 2015.
Generally, the SDGs have 169 targets summarized into 17 major goals, all of which are expected to be achieved by 2030.
The 17 major SDG goals are:
- Good Health and Well-being;
- Clean Water and Sanitation;
- Affordable and Clean Energy;
- Decent Work and Economic Growth;
- Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure;
- Sustainable Cities and Communities;
- Responsible Consumption and Production;
- Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions; and
- Partnerships for the Goals.
According to the Sustainable Development Report 2025, the country with the highest global SDG index is Finland.
Finland's SDG index in 2024 reached 87.02 out of 100. This means Finland was assessed to have achieved 87.02% of all SDG targets last year.
Other countries with SDG indices in the global top ranks are Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Austria, Norway, Croatia, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, Indonesia is ranked 77th globally with an SDG index of 70.22 in 2024.
