Indonesia's Digital Economy Tax Revenue Reaches IDR 41.09 Trillion in August 2025

According to a report by the Directorate General of Taxes of the Ministry of Finance (DGT MoF), Indonesia's accumulated tax revenue from the digital economy sector reached IDR 41.09 trillion during the period from 2020 to August 2025.

"Digital tax increasingly affirms its role as a primary driver of state revenue in this digital era," said Rosmauli, Director of Counseling, Services, and Public Relations at the DGT MoF, in a statement, as reported by Katadata on Friday (September 26, 2025). 

The majority of this realization came from Value Added Tax (VAT) on trade through electronic systems (PMSE), amounting to IDR 31.85 trillion.

As of August 2025, the government has appointed 236 PMSE businesses as VAT collectors. This includes four new appointments: Blackmagic Design Asia Pte Ltd, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, PIA Private Internet Access Inc, and Neon Commerce Inc.

Concurrently, the government revoked one PMSE VAT collector, namely TP Global Operations Limited. 

Next, digital tax revenue from financial technology (fintech) P2P lending amounted to IDR 3.99 trillion. In detail, fintech tax originated from Income Tax (PPh) 12 amounting to IDR 1.11 trillion, PPh 26 at IDR 724.32 billion, and domestic VAT at IDR 2.15 trillion. 

Furthermore, digital tax from goods/services procurement transactions through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP) totaled IDR 3.63 trillion. This consists of Income Tax Article 22 amounting to IDR 242.31 billion and VAT at IDR 3.29 trillion.

Lastly, tax revenue from crypto transactions amounted to IDR 1.61 trillion. This value comprises Income Tax Article 22 revenue of IDR 770.42 billion and domestic VAT revenue of IDR 840.08 billion.
