Online Gambling Trends in Indonesia Continue to Rise Until 2024

The number of online gambling transactions in Indonesia has steadily increased in recent years.

This is evident from the growing number of online gambling transactions detected by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).

According to PPATK findings, in 2017 there were only around 250,000 online gambling-related transactions in Indonesia, with a total value of Rp2 trillion.

After that, activity increased significantly. By 2024, PPATK found approximately 209 million transactions, with a total value exceeding Rp359 trillion.

PPATK also found that in 2024, the number of online gamblers in Indonesia reached 16.38 million people.

"These are not just numbers," said PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana in a press release (8/5/2025). "The significant social impact of this widespread online gambling addiction includes marital conflict, prostitution, online loans, and more."

"Many derivative crimes stem from online gambling, such as violence, fraud, illegal online loans, and even murder. This is dangerous," he continued.

• 2017: 250.7 thousand transactions, total value Rp2.01 trillion
• 2018: 666.1 thousand transactions, total value Rp3.98 trillion
• 2019: 1.85 million transactions, total value Rp6.18 trillion
• 2020: 5.63 million transactions, total value Rp15.77 trillion
• 2021: 43.6 million transactions, total value Rp57.91 trillion
• 2022: 121 million transactions, total value Rp155.46 trillion
• 2023: 168 million transactions, total value Rp327 trillion
• 2024: 209.57 million transactions, total value Rp359.81 trillion
