East Java to Have the Largest Cooperative Business Volume in 2024

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the volume of cooperative businesses in Indonesia reached Rp214 trillion in 2024.

This business volume represents the total value of income or sales of goods and services obtained by cooperatives in one fiscal year.

In 2024, East Java was the province with the largest cooperative businesses, with a volume reaching Rp40.74 trillion.

Other provinces on the island of Java (Central Java, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, and Banten) also have sizable cooperative businesses.

Combined, the volume of cooperative businesses in all provinces on the island of Java reached Rp131 trillion, equivalent to 61% of the national volume of cooperative businesses.

The national volume of cooperative businesses has the potential to increase in the coming period.

In March 2025, President Prabowo Subianto ordered the formation of 80,000 Red and White Cooperatives. This order was established through Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025.

Red and White Cooperatives are village/sub-district level cooperatives that conduct business activities such as the procurement of basic necessities, money lending and saving services, clinics, pharmacies, warehousing, logistics, and others.

The government stated that it will provide support in the form of funding, guidance, mentoring, empowerment, and facilitation for these cooperatives.
