According to the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), the number of employees laid off in Indonesia from January to November 2024 reached 67,000.
This figure is higher than the number of layoffs during the January-November 2023 period, which was around 57,000, and significantly higher than the approximately 12,000 layoffs in January-November 2022.
However, these figures may not represent the total number of layoffs in Indonesia, as Kemnaker only records layoffs reported through the Manpower Service Information and Application System and/or industrial relations courts.
Meanwhile, according to Bob Azam, Head of Manpower at the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), 108,000 employees have been laid off this year.
"Generally, from labor-intensive industries, such as footwear," said Bob Azam, as reported by *[Katadata.co.id](https://katadata.co.id/berita/industri/67652060f106a/apindo-sebut-108-ribu-orang-terkena-phk-selama-2024)* on Friday, December 20, 2024.
He attributed this situation to a weakening global economy, the lingering impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on industries, and the influx of foreign products into Indonesia.
