Between 2009 and 2023, the Indonesian government developed 20 Special Economic Zones (KEKs).

This year, the government is preparing the establishment of 4 new KEKs with a total investment value of Rp 161 trillion.

“[The new KEKs] have been approved, but to be officially designated as KEKs, we need a Government Regulation to be signed by the President,” said the Acting Secretary General of the National KEK Council, Rizal Edwin, as reported by *Antara* on Monday (July 22, 2024).

“With the presence of KEKs, we can boost economic growth in those areas and create jobs through incoming investments,” he added.
