The Number of Garuda Indonesia Employees Has Continuously Decreased Since 2014

The restructuring process of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk through the Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations (PKPU) is ongoing. Employee reduction, as a way to cut operational costs, is also being implemented.

According to the company's financial reports, the number of Garuda Indonesia employees has decreased by 2,727 since 2014 until September 30, 2021. A total of 14,065 employees worked for Garuda Indonesia and its subsidiaries (Garuda Group) as of September 30, 2021.

The number of Garuda Group employees was recorded at 17,197 in 2014. In 2015, the number of employees decreased to 16,792. The number further decreased to 16,551 in 2016.

The number of employees continued to decline each year. Specifically, the number of Garuda Indonesia employees was 16,551 in 2017, 16,336 in 2018, 15,623 in 2019, and 14,730 in 2020.

Besides the restructuring efforts, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Erick Thohir, is also investigating corruption cases at Garuda. Erick discovered a markup in the procurement of ATR 72-600 aircraft and brought the case to the Attorney General's Office in January 2022.
