Per Capita Expenditure in East Java Increased to Rp 11.7 Million per Year in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the trend of per capita expenditure in East Java showed an increase until 2019. Unfortunately, this spending trend declined when the pandemic hit Indonesia.

Recorded adjusted per capita expenditure (purchasing power parity) in East Java was Rp 11.74 million per year in 2019. This expenditure increased by 3.2% from Rp 11.38 million per year in 2018.

However, the increase in East Java's per capita expenditure did not continue during the pandemic. The figure decreased by 1.2% to Rp 11.6 million per year in 2020.

East Java then recorded a slight increase of 0.91% to Rp 11.7 million per year in 2021. Although it increased, per capita expenditure in East Java in 2021 was still lower than before the pandemic.

Per capita expenditure is one dimension of the Human Development Index (HDI). It is used to measure the decent living standards of its citizens.
