Layoffs in Indonesia have increased from the beginning of the year until May 2024.
This is evident from the *Layoff Workers* report released by the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker).
According to the report, in January 2024, 3,330 employees nationwide were laid off.
The number increased in subsequent months, reaching 8,390 layoffs in May 2024.
Cumulatively, from January to May 2024, there were 27,220 layoffs in Indonesia.
During the January-May 2024 period, the highest number of layoffs occurred in Banten (22%), DKI Jakarta (20%), West Java (16%), and Central Java (14%).
Layoffs in other provinces were fewer, representing 6% of the total national layoffs or less.
However, this figure may not represent the entirety of layoffs in Indonesia.
This is because Kemnaker only records layoffs reported through the Manpower Service Information and Application System and/or industrial relations courts.
