Food Prices Fall from September 2022 Peak

Food prices have decreased again with the arrival of the harvest season in food-producing regions.

This is reflected in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the food, beverage, and tobacco expenditure group, where the food sub-index fell 0.57% to 116.11 in September 2022 from the previous month. This decrease is the second consecutive one since August 2022.

Previously, food prices had reached their highest level, with the food CPI reaching 119.59 in July 2022. Disruptions to supply from producers due to extreme rainfall caused food prices to soar to consumers. However, the arrival of the harvest season in major food-producing centers has caused prices to fall.

Compared to December 2021, food prices recorded inflation of 5.24% (year to date/ytd). Similarly, compared to September 2021, food prices still increased by 8.41% (year on year/yoy).
