The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Transportation Agency (Dishub), has included a budget of Rp7.5 billion for bicycle lanes in the 2023 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). This funding is intended for the improvement and evaluation of existing bicycle lanes.
"Last night at the commission meeting, (the budget for bicycle lanes) was included again (in the 2023 DKI RAPBD). It had been crossed out earlier," said M Taufik Zoelkifli (MTZ), a member of the DKI DPRD Commission B from the PKS faction, on Thursday (17/11/2022), as reported by *IDX Channel*.
Currently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, is constructing 196.45 km of bicycle lanes in Jakarta using the 2022 APBD. The current length of existing bicycle lanes in Jakarta is 114.5 km. This number will continue to increase to 300 km by the end of 2022.
"There are no (new bicycle lane additions). Of the Rp7.5 billion, Rp2 billion is for the evaluation of existing lanes, Rp500 million for the socialization of the evaluation results, and Rp5 billion for repairs. For example, if the evaluation shows that a lane is wrong or too dangerous, it will be relocated using the Rp5 billion," explained MTZ.
The construction of bicycle lanes is regulated in Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 128 of 2019 concerning the Provision of Bicycle Lanes. This program is included in Strategic Regional Activity (KSD) Number 36 regarding the Development of Bicycle Infrastructure and Facilities. This development is also in line with the Jakarta Bicycle-Friendly program to improve the quality of infrastructure supporting environmentally friendly vehicles by building integrated bicycle lanes in the DKI Jakarta area.
Three types of bicycle lanes will be extended this year: protected bicycle lanes separated by *stick cones*, shared bicycle lanes marked with lane markings and road studs, and sidewalk bicycle lanes located on sidewalks.
The 2022 construction plan includes 40.6 km of protected bicycle lanes, 154.73 km of shared bicycle lanes, and 1.67 km of sidewalk bicycle lanes. This construction will be carried out on 26 planned bicycle lane routes from August to December 2022. These routes are:
