Pontianak City's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp47.89 trillion. This represents a 4.76% growth compared to the previous year's Rp44.32 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 3.96%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 676,100, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp70,890,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 123rd.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector is the leading contributor.
The wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector in Pontianak City is the mainstay sector, contributing the largest share to the 2023 GRDP with a value of Rp8.58 trillion. This represents a 6.8% growth compared to the previous year's Rp7.55 trillion.
Second is the construction sector, which grew by 2.22% to Rp7.77 trillion, followed by the manufacturing industry, which grew by 0.05% to Rp7.51 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five sectors contributing to Pontianak City's GRDP are financial and insurance services, valued at Rp4.16 trillion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 4.12% over the past year from the previous year's Rp4.01 trillion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to Pontianak City's GRDP is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, with a contribution of 18.51%. Other sectors in the top five include manufacturing, construction, transportation and warehousing, and financial and insurance services.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Business Services; Water Supply; Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; Electricity and Gas Supply; and Mining and Quarrying.
