Bali's Economy Grew by 1.46% in the First Quarter of 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Bali's economy grew by 1.46% year-on-year (yoy) in the first quarter of 2022.

This positive economic growth in Bali was driven by the easing of the implementation of Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) policies during the first quarter of 2022. This coincided with the achievement of the Covid-19 vaccination program, which progressed according to target.

In addition, traditional, social, and religious ceremonies took place in an atmosphere of euphoria, thus boosting demand for goods and services in Bali.

As a result, the total output and value added produced in the first quarter of 2022 increased compared to the first quarter of 2021. This increase caused Bali's economy to experience positive yoy growth.

Of the 17 business sectors, 12 recorded positive growth. The highest growth was recorded in the manufacturing industry sector at 16.21%. This was followed by growth in the electricity and gas supply sector at 7.66%, and growth in the other services sector at 6.23%.

On the other hand, five business sectors acted as a constraint on Bali's yoy economic growth in the first quarter of 2022. The government administration, defense, and mandatory social security sector contracted the most, at 10.33%.

Then, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector contracted by 2.84%, the water supply, waste management, waste and recycling sector contracted by 2.08%, the information and communication sector contracted by 0.16%, and the education services sector contracted by 0.05%.

Nevertheless, Bali's economy in the first quarter of 2022 recorded a contraction of 4.27% compared to the achievement in the fourth quarter of 2021 (q-to-q).
