BBM Price Hike, Jakarta Inflation Reaches Highest Level in a Year

Prices of various goods and services in Jakarta have been observed to creep up following the fuel price hike in early September 2022. This has led to a significant surge in inflation in the capital city.

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the monthly inflation rate in Jakarta reached 1.21% in September 2022. This figure increased by 1.32 percentage points compared to the previous month and is the highest level in the last year.

According to BPS, the main contributors to Jakarta's inflation this time are gasoline (0.772%), inner-city transportation services (0.079%), filter-tipped kretek cigarettes (0.026%), and air transportation services (0.025%).

In addition, the prices of food commodities and ready-to-eat food in the capital city also increased significantly and contributed to the inflation rate.

The highest contributing group to inflation in Jakarta is transportation, with a contribution of 0.95%. This is followed by the food, beverage, and tobacco group, which contributed 0.09% to inflation, and food and beverage services/restaurants, contributing 0.04%.

Next, household equipment, tools, and routine maintenance experienced inflation of 0.03%, followed by health and personal care and services, each also contributing the same inflation value. Then, the household water, electricity, and fuel group recorded a 0.02% contribution to inflation.

Meanwhile, the lowest contribution to inflation was from the clothing and footwear group, with an inflation contribution of only 0.01%.
