With the easing of community activities, West Sulawesi's economy grew by 2.56% in 2021.

West Sulawesi's economy, based on the nominal Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), reached Rp50.34 trillion in 2021. This figure represents 0.3% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which totaled Rp16.97 quadrillion.

Measured by the 2010 constant price GRDP, West Sulawesi's economy grew by 2.56% to Rp32.87 trillion in 2021 compared to the previous year.

This achievement is better than the previous year, which experienced a 2.4% contraction, but still lower than the national economic growth of 3.69% in the previous year.

The easing of social activities and social assistance from both the central and regional governments helped boost the economy of this province, which was carved out from South Sulawesi Province.

In terms of business sectors, agriculture remains the largest contributor to West Sulawesi's GRDP, accounting for 43.66% last year. This is followed by the manufacturing industry at 10.72%, and wholesale and retail trade at 9.93%.

The construction sector recorded the highest growth last year, at 11.63%. This was followed by the mining and quarrying sector with 9.08% growth, and the manufacturing industry with 3.58% growth.

From the expenditure side, household consumption is the main driver of the provincial economy, with its capital city in Mamuju, reaching 51% of the GRDP. This is followed by gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) at 28.04%, and government consumption at 15.53%.

GFCF recorded the highest growth at 7.44% throughout last year. This was followed by household non-profit institutions' consumption (NPISH) at 3.83%, and household consumption at 1.95%.
