According to Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, the electric vehicle company Tesla will invest in the Integrated Industrial Estate (KIT) Batang, Central Java.
Not only Tesla, but multinational electronics companies such as LG and Foxconn are also reportedly planning to build factories there.
"Batang will become the best industrial estate center in Indonesia. There will be large companies there, such as LG, Foxconn, and Tesla, God willing, will also enter there and several other companies," said Bahlil during the *Road to G20 Investment Forum* on Wednesday (18/5/2022).
Bahlil stated that the government has been preparing KIT Batang as a development area for electric vehicle batteries for the past few years.
Based on information from the *Central Java Investment Platform* (CJIP) website, KIT Batang is planned to be developed into 3 clusters divided according to industrial classification. The details are as follows:
Cluster 1: Area ±3,100 hectares (ha), intended for manufacturing, furniture, food and beverage, warehousing, garment, automotive, textile batteries, and chemical industries.
Cluster 2: Area ±800 ha, intended for food and beverage, information and communication technology, electronics, and warehousing industries.
Cluster 3: Area ±400 ha, intended for research and development, and other commercial industries (study still ongoing).
KIT Batang is planned to be developed in stages. In the first phase, an area of ±450 ha from Cluster 1, which has a total area of ±3,100 ha, will be developed. However, CJIP has not yet published its development schedule.
The government also stated that it will equip KIT Batang with infrastructure such as toll roads, bridges, dams, integrated waste and waste management facilities, a drinking water supply system, and low-cost apartment buildings for workers.
