Pelalawan Regency's 2023 current price Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached Rp70.52 trillion. This represents a 4.69% increase compared to the previous year's Rp65.55 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. Post-COVID growth at the end of 2020 was recorded at 2.25%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 415,470, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp172.62 million/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 31st.
Of the 17 sectors driving the regency's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
The manufacturing sector in Pelalawan Regency is the mainstay sector, contributing the largest share to the 2023 GRDP with a value of Rp34.41 billion. This represents a 5.59% increase compared to the previous year's Rp32.2 billion.
Next, in second place, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector grew by 3.14% to Rp28.55 billion, followed by the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 6.53% to Rp1.98 billion.
Finally, rounding out the top five sectors contributing to Pelalawan Regency's GRDP is mining and quarrying, with a value of Rp1.43 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 2.33% over the past year from a previous achievement of Rp1.59 billion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to the GRDP in Pelalawan Regency is the manufacturing sector, with a contribution of 52.94%. Other sectors in the top five include agriculture, forestry and fisheries; wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; construction; and mining and quarrying.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Accommodation and Food Service Activities; Health and Social Work Activities; Electricity and Gas Supply; Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; and Corporate Services.
