How Many Research Projects are Currently Funded by the Indonesian Government?

A total of 2,109 research projects funded by the Indonesian government have been recorded. These projects are financed from the State Budget (APBN).

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that the realization of the budget for these 2,109 projects reached Rp1.773,6 billion or Rp1.77 trillion.

Of this total, 1,282 projects are ongoing. The realization of their budget reached Rp1.08 trillion.

Furthermore, 827 projects out of the 2,109 have been completed, with a budget realization of Rp688.8 billion.

In addition to these projects, the APBN also supports 425 projects under the Indonesia Maju Research program with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

The budget realization for BRIN's research reached Rp107.38 billion.

APBN Allocation for BRIN

According to *Bisnis.com*, Sri Mulyani has allocated a total budget of Rp9.38 trillion for research and innovation at BRIN in 2023.

This comprises Rp6.38 trillion from the 2023 APBN. Including carry-over funds and returns from the endowment fund, the total budget for this year reaches Rp9.38 trillion.

The majority of the funds (64% of the APBN, or Rp4 trillion) are used for BRIN's operational costs, including employee salaries. Approximately Rp2.4 trillion will be used for research.

“Of BRIN's Rp6.4 trillion budget, the majority, Rp4 trillion, is for employee salaries and operational expenses, because there are 15,000 employees,” said BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko during a Media Lounge Discussion at the B.J. Habibie BRIN Building, Jakarta, Friday (24/2/2023).
