Top 10 Countries with the Highest Biodiversity in the World 2022, Where Does Indonesia Rank?

Biodiversity is crucial for our planet. However, over the last century, the world has witnessed an unprecedented decline in biodiversity, driven by climate change, habitat loss, overexploitation, pollution, and pesticides.

According to the 2022 Global Biodiversity Index by *The Swiftest*, Brazil ranks first as the country with the highest biodiversity globally, achieving a score of 512.34. This includes 1,816 bird species, 1,141 amphibian species, 4,738 fish species, 847 reptile species, and 34,387 vascular plant species.

Brazil is a large country with exceptional biodiversity. Covering almost 3.3 million square miles, it is the fifth-largest country by size but ranks first in biodiversity. It is estimated to be home to up to 20% of the world's total biodiversity, with new native species constantly being discovered.

Indonesia ranks second with a score of 418.78. Indonesia boasts 1,723 bird species, 282 amphibian species, 4,813 fish species, 729 mammal species, 773 reptile species, and 19,232 vascular plant species.

*The Swiftest* employed a mixed-methods approach in its research design, using six factors to determine each country's biodiversity score: the number of bird species, amphibian species, fish species, mammal species, reptile species, and vascular plant species.
