Intan Jaya's Population Food Consumption Adequacy Rate Decreased by 41.29% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, was 41.29% in 2023.

This figure is down 13.96% from the previous year's 55.25%, while it has increased by 6.99% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Intan Jaya Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes insufficient food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that in Intan Jaya Regency, the percentage of the population whose food consumption does not meet their energy needs does not reach 41.29% of the total population.

Compared to seven other regencies/cities in Central Papua Province, Intan Jaya Regency ranks fourth in terms of PoU. The regency with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Nabire Regency (28.08%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Dogiyai Regency (67.17%).
