Food Insecurity Prevalence in Soppeng Reaches 13.14% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi, was 13.14% in 2023.

This figure is down 1.89% from the previous year's 15.03%, while it has increased by 3.35% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Soppeng Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Soppeng Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 13.14% of the total population.
