Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts on Tuesday Night, Activity Level at Alert

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (27/1/2026) at 8:46 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 3 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

Visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 13 millimeters and a duration of 28 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Siaga/Alert). Seismicity observations on January 27, 2026, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 11 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 15.6-25.2 millimeters and a duration of 30-31 seconds.

Then, 111 times of exhalation quakes with amplitudes of 3.4-12.4 millimeters and a duration of 24-38 seconds, and 1 deep volcanic quake with an amplitude of 28.2 millimeters s-p 1.2 seconds and a duration of 14 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter or engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 365 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (194 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 20 times.
