Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, October 12, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 02:25 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 28 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on October 12, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 2 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 417-489 seconds.

Then, there were 4 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-3.7 millimeters and durations of 45-101 seconds, and 3 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 3.7-4.4 millimeters and durations of 8-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,420 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,821 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 775 times.
