Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, March 19, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 4:16 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 41 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 19, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB, showed 76 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and durations of 49-208 seconds.

Then, there were 2 pyroclastic flow quakes with amplitudes of 2-6 mm and durations of 48-99 seconds, and 17 emission quakes with amplitudes of 4-8 millimeters and durations of 43-158 seconds.

The PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, people should not carry out activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (river buffer zone) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for the expansion of pyroclastic flows and lava flows up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,301 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions with 1,051 eruptions.
