Mount Semeru Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, February 12, 2026)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Thursday (February 12, 2026) at 9:47 PM WIB. In the past week, Mount Semeru has erupted 33 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

Visual observation of the eruption was not possible. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 130 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Earthquake observations on February 12, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIB showed 14 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-22 millimeters and durations of 63-130 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 pyroclastic flow earthquake with an amplitude of 17 mm and duration of 240 seconds, and 1 collapse earthquake with an amplitude of 15 mm and duration of 162 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activities in the southeast sector along the Besuk Kobokan, within 13 kilometers of the peak (eruption center). Beyond this distance, residents are advised not to conduct activities within 500 meters of the riverbanks along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow expansion and lahar flows up to 17 kilometers from the peak.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 577 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions with 300 events.
