Pekanbaru City Had the Highest Human Development Index in Riau in 2021

Pekanbaru City had the highest Human Development Index (HDI) score in Riau in 2021. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the city's HDI score at 81.58.

This figure increased by 0.32% compared to 2020, which was 81.32. The increase in Pekanbaru City's HDI occurred in the knowledge dimension, namely Life Expectancy at School (HLS) which increased by 0.06% to 15.55 years, and the average years of schooling (RLS) increased by 2.05% to 11.92 years in 2021.

In addition, the long and healthy life dimension, measured by life expectancy (AHH), also increased by 0.09% to 72.41 years in 2021. Meanwhile, the decent living standard dimension, namely real per capita expenditure per year, decreased by 0.5% to Rp 14.36 million in 2021.

Pekanbaru City's HDI score in 2021 was even above the national average of 72.29. Pekanbaru City is also the only region in Riau Province with a very high category of human development achievement.

Dumai City was second with an HDI score of 74.75 in 2021. The HDI score obtained by the city falls into the high category.

Besides Dumai City, six other regencies also had HDI scores in the high category. These six regions are Siak Regency with an HDI score of 73.98, Bengkalis Regency 73.58, Kampar Regency 73.02, Pelalawan Regency 72.08, Kuantan Singingi Regency 70.60, and Indragiri Hulu Regency 70.01.

Meanwhile, four other regencies had HDI scores in the medium category. They are Rokan Hulu Regency with an HDI score of 69.67, Rokan Hilir Regency 69.34, Indragiri Hilir Regency 66.63, and Meranti Regency 65.70.

The HDI score for Riau Province was 72.94 in 2021. This figure increased by 0.32% compared to the previous year, which was 72.71.
