It has been widely reported that Kaesang Pangarep, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), will run for mayor of Depok in 2024. This statement has been confirmed by Kaesang himself through a video upload.
"I am Kaesang Pangarep. I have received permission and blessings from my family. God willing, I am ready to be Depok's first [mayor]. I ask for your support. Merdeka!" said Kaesang in a video titled *Klarifikasi, Saya Buka Suara* (Clarification, I Speak Up) on the Kaesang Pangarep by GK Hebat YouTube channel, as quoted by *Katadata* on Saturday (June 10, 2023).
Meanwhile, Jokowi himself has fully entrusted the decision on his son's candidacy to Kaesang. Kaesang is currently included in the list of mayoral candidates for Depok, nominated by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
“I’m used to it; when my children are married and have their own families, their responsibilities are their own,” said Jokowi at the BPKP office, Jakarta, on Wednesday (June 14, 2023).
Jokowi stated that he would offer advice if asked by Kaesang. However, if not asked for advice, he said he would leave the decision entirely to his youngest son.
