Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, July 11, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (July 11, 2024) at 10:36 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 25 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on July 11, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 222 seconds.

Then, 1 shallow volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 10 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 8.8 millimeters, S-P 13 seconds, and a duration of 80 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 4-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,580 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (692 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 339 times.
